Getting Started...

General / 02 May 2020

Hey! So this is my first ever blog post and quite clearly; I'm still getting the hang of things. The past week or so I have been trying to get as much done as I can in terms of building myself as a freelancer in the online space, both for myself and my current uni project. The current module includes the creation of a portfolio and promo pack, and that's what this website is all part of! I'm using it for my portfolio, and can put it on my business cards too!

I suppose i should start by introducing myself; I'm thatawkwardillustrator, I'm a 22 year old illustration student studying at The Northern School of Art in Hartlepool, UK. I'm on the Illustration for Commercial Application course and I'm trying to break into the industry as a freelance illustrator. I have 2 dogs, Bertie and Willow, and I love a good cup of tea. My favourite colours are petrol blue and mustard, as you can probably tell by a lot of my FMP work! I'm a huge fan of anything folklore and fantasy, and I also like things that make you feel comfortable and warm; so I try to encapsulate all of this in my art work. I'm a total autumn lover so again, a lot of my work is inspired by that.

I like to paint landscapes using gouache, but I've also picked up using digital media to make illustrations for products like enamel pins, tote bags and badges to name a few. Alongside this I enjoy sculpting and making jewellery, as the idea of wearable art for the masses has always been something that has held great interest for me. If you're interested in checking out my stuff you can find me on Instagram if you click the little button at the bottom left of my website. You can also find me on Etsy if you copy/paste the link https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/AwkwardIllustrator into your search bar (the link can also be found in my bio on Art Station and Instagram), or simply search AwkwardIllustrator on Etsy.com.

I thought doing this little post would give anyone who might be interested a better insight into me, so I hope I've done alright!

If you made it this far thank you, and I hope you have a lovely day!

I hope to write more posts in the future about my process, projects, and maybe even some things like how I try to overcome anxiety through creating art as I want to do some illustrations based on self-care soonish!
